Speaker 1 (0:49): It'll feel like you actually give an f sometimes or even respect me sometimes, as Chris and Doty said.
Speaker 2 (0:58): Well, Danny may not be a clown or a douche. He's just a dude that likes to breastfeed. And you gotta love a man who's down to putting on prosthetic nipples to help his wife. I mean, at least he's, taking one for the team. Can't ever deny that he has not done that after this week's episode.
Unknown Speaker (1:13): Good job, Danny.
Unknown Speaker (1:14): Good job.
Speaker 1 (1:15): There was so much to get into, so I felt like this episode stripped away the filler, and it really left a lot of real issues to deal with. You've got some real aspects about being in your thirties to forties.
Unknown Speaker (1:31): Yes.
Speaker 1 (1:31): Raising children. Yes. Having to move out of the city, living in the valley.
Unknown Speaker (1:36): Mhmm.
Speaker 1 (1:37): And unfortunately, there was a minimization of Janet scenes and a little bit of minimization of Jesse scenes too, which I didn't like too much. But with that all being said, I'm ready to get into it.
Speaker 2 (1:52): Yes. Yes. We should definitely get into it. I think that this episode had me a little bit lukewarm to coin a phrase, but I need it more, but I think we're getting there. So anyway, let's go.
Speaker 2 (2:13): Yeah. I think you really named it. I think what we're seeing in the valley right now is a cast of characters who are definitely adulting. You know, that's a term that people throw around these days, but they are definitely in the throes of adulting and that crossroads where you move out of the partying phase and hi, Summerhouse, y'all should take lessons. And they're going into dealing with, like you said, real life.
Speaker 2 (2:36): We've got marriages that are, some stronger than others. Some, some are kind of been formed for a while and they're shifting to, you know, dealing with the reality of four under four. It sounded cute, but now it's a reality. You wonder to what extent is Nia questioning this and God, what a crossroads she's at because she loves her children, is completely dedicated to them as her husband. But you can see that she's struggling with that.
Speaker 2 (3:04): And then you have Kristen, who is definitely struggling with the postpartum of it all and the gap of low body positivity, which informs her low sexual positivity. And you have Luke, who is in the throes of trying to not only adjust to being a new father, adjusting to the fact that the relationship has changed and trying to figure out where he fits into that. But then a very common phenomenon that a lot of new fathers experience where it's like, where do I fit in now that my wife, my partner, or whatever is all dialed into this baby whom I love, but where am I in this? Oh, and by the way, I'm 2,000 miles away from my family. There's some real life lessons going on.
Speaker 2 (3:48): And what I really did love is watching the guys get together. I thought that that was such a nice refreshing element.
Unknown Speaker (3:55): At the cigar bar or at the Both, patty
Speaker 2 (3:57): both at Hammer and Nail. Yeah. At Hammer and Nail and definitely at the cigar barb. But I gotta tell you, I gotta give it to La la. When Joe Windberg's doppelganger from Hammer Nail walked into the spot.
Speaker 2 (4:20): Yes, I went there. Yes, walked into the spot.
Speaker 1 (4:23): I should have worn that hairstyle today. With the shih tzu.
Unknown Speaker (4:28): I can't tell you. Problem. No worry. My Shih Tzu's wearing it right now for all of us. You go Blue.
Unknown Speaker (4:33): But the Shih Tzu hair and walked in with the two drinks like high, all I could think of was, I've seen this before And it didn't work out. It didn't work out too well. And La la's face. La la's face was like. Girl, I saw you La la and then she was still there.
Unknown Speaker (4:54): She wouldn't leave like shit with the lady. She's like I'm gonna go.
Unknown Speaker (4:57): La and Michelle were like, in the nail salon are we doing here girl?
Unknown Speaker (5:03): Yes. I got to give it up to my girl. La la was like, and you're still here and yet tried to be so gracious to not really push her off Schwartz Island, Belmont Island. It was literally Joe Wimberg all over again. What is it about you Schwartz that drags in these women, but you gotta stop that quirky stuff that you do.
Unknown Speaker (5:26): Like,
Speaker 1 (5:27): It's like Lingy's love Schwartz. The ladies are loving him.
Unknown Speaker (5:33): Well
Speaker 1 (5:33): It's Schwartz y. Like La la said, he's Schwartz y and he's so innocent. And I think that really goes far with women.
Unknown Speaker (5:41): Oh, yes. It gives that, women want to take care of that in some way, but I think it's cute And to a honestly in person, he is like that. That's like literally him. Yeah. That's literally him.
Unknown Speaker (5:57): Right? So I don't think it's performative. I just think that that's who he is. If he is, then he should really join the Groundlings or Second City because that's a hell of an improv act if you're really acting that way. I just think that that's who he is.
Speaker 2 (6:13): I don't think it's improv at all, but Laura's face was gold, gold.
Speaker 1 (6:18): He's so cute. And they were just trying to get him to kiss Michelle's friend Natalie so bad. And he couldn't do it because of the pressure. They need La la don't you know, Schwartz can't perform under pressure. Didn't Katie tell you?
Speaker 2 (6:34): Well, also though too, think, you know, one of the things that he said that was really profound and I don't remember which episode it was. No, actually, I think it was the season of Joe that he said that sometimes he's so friendly that it comes off as flirting when he's just really just this affable, over affable guy who wants everybody to be seen and feel good and all those things. And so I'm wondering if he's just trying to stop himself from going there. Like literally he had a hall pass, a full green hall pass for Michelle. You go, Michelle, you called it, you said, you know what?
Speaker 2 (7:10): He's cute. And I think he's my buddy. You know, he's my friend, but I need somebody who's a little bit more.
Unknown Speaker (7:17): I figured when they went on that date.
Unknown Speaker (7:19): Less comfortable side. I'm gonna, What?
Unknown Speaker (7:23): When they went on that date, there was no chemistry last week.
Speaker 2 (7:26): Do you need somebody who's who's a little bit more established and less quirky like that? And that made sense to me, but I loved how she is a girl's girl. And Michelle, I love how you're showing up. You know, your smile is just infectious. You got me smiling ear to ear when I see you like, oh, Michelle's on
Unknown Speaker (7:40): the screen.
Speaker 2 (7:40): Can't wait to watch. Know? What a separation and a divorce and progress will do for you in a matter of two years. But she, Being a girl's girl, into Natalie, fixing her hair, like you should go for it. He's into you.
Speaker 2 (7:55): And Natalie, you need to be on the show. I'm loving your vibe, honey. I'm happy do. Yeah. Your energy was so like unbothered and God, that's the word of the century.
Speaker 2 (8:05): That manifestation is like literally the word of this year. Unbothered. Find a new word, but just literally like, like on chill status, this is what I do. You know, I'm cool. I just loved, loved what she was bringing.
Speaker 2 (8:17): And I love La la's face.
Speaker 1 (8:19): La la was hilarious this episode. I think that bringing Schwartz and La la was a great addition
Unknown Speaker (8:27): I do to the too.
Speaker 1 (8:29): Right? I feel like La la and Schwartz bring that levity aspect that we Absolutely. Really didn't have
Speaker 2 (8:37): Absolutely. And you know what I liked, what I appreciated about this show is that whatever drama that made me fall asleep last week was not carried over into this episode. Like they moved on from it. This episode was totally about the men and their relationships. I didn't know how I felt about the nipple thing and watching.
Speaker 2 (8:57): Yeah.
Speaker 1 (9:02): I didn't know this such a product existed. So when I saw it, I was like, poor, poor Nia. Like, she has to deal with these antics, this, like, jokester personality, which isn't really my type. But if he makes her happy, they're cute together. They have the same beliefs.
Speaker 1 (9:23): I do think Danny and Nia go together really well. Like they match.
Speaker 2 (9:29): Think so too. I'm just worried about her. She seems tired.
Speaker 1 (9:33): And he seems to be joking his way out of her being tired.
Speaker 2 (9:37): No disrespect to Danny. No disrespect Danny, but you come across very much a man's man and mildly domineering. I don't, I don't know. Gosh, I'm going go out on a limb here. I'm just going to say it because it's Thursday.
Speaker 2 (9:53): I know that there's some Christian values that they both really subscribe to. And I know in some Christian, religions that the subservient role as, to how men and women relate and how they move in a relationship is very much top of mind for some religions. And so I wonder, that what he kind of leads within the home that I am the man and you're kind of subservient to, you know, what I say goes. And that's the vibe I get. I don't know if that's really it.
Speaker 2 (10:22): And again, we don't know. You guys film for hours and you, we only see about 20% of 80% of what you film. So we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes, but if it, if what we're seeing is the relationship, it does come across as if she has been relegated to a very submissive role, not subservient, I'm sorry, very submissive role, wrong And word that I used he comes across like he is the man of the house.
Speaker 1 (10:50): And I wonder if it's also because he brings in the majority of the financial resources.
Unknown Speaker (10:56): That could be too. It's a power dynamic for sure.
Speaker 1 (10:59): Right. Because I know he was an extra on The Walking Dead. He was one of the mummies. I don't know if he's still in that role, but I know he's a working actor. I'm sure he'll pick up more roles as life goes on.
Speaker 1 (11:12): So I wonder if Nia is just moving into that stay at home mom and Danny decides to make all the decisions, I. E. Santa Clarita.
Speaker 2 (11:23): Yeah. Well, Walking Dead was canceled, 2022, 11/20/2022. So maybe in theory, he's still Walking Dead. He's still acting in that show, The Walking Dead. Well, I guess he is.
Speaker 2 (11:36): He's in Santa Clarita, so that tracks, but, because it does look like The Walking Dead, but, yeah, I mean, you know, I mean, he's doing voiceover and so, you know, he seems to be consistently working and he seems to be obviously very talented in that way. So, I mean, that definitely could be a dynamic that's coming to the surface with them.
Speaker 1 (11:56): It could be that. It could have something to do with her childhood of not having a stable father figure and wanting that man. It could be anything. It's hard to know unless they really open up and decide to talk about that aspect of their life. But yeah, it seems like they want to protect their marriage and they close that off a little bit.
Speaker 2 (12:19): Yeah. I mean, and if you take into consideration that her ethnicity is largely Spanish, Spanish roots and the roles, the roles assignment in that culture sometimes relegate the wives, partners, women, what have you, to be in deference to their husbands. So there's a lot of dynamics that play, but I sense that this is a wife that really wants to have her voice and maybe possibly struggles with really saying how she feels and not, well, no, she says how she feels. I can't say that, but I would like to see her more demand like, no, this is not working for me.
Unknown Speaker (12:53): This is
Speaker 2 (12:54): what I need from you. You know, I would've loved to have seen her demand and said, know what? No, I'm not doing Santa Clarita. No, what we're gonna do is we're gonna buy this little three bedroom over here. Okay.
Unknown Speaker (13:03): Off of, Fulton. I'm just making up a street off of Fulton. Okay. With a big enough backyard and we're gonna do an ADU. Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:12): And that can be the fourth bedroom, the five bedrooms or whatever, whatever, whatever. But you got me out here on these Santa Clarita Streets and all I see, I don't see, I don't see any Ventura Boulevard. I don't see any Granville. I don't see Leona Sushi House. I see L shaped centers with TJ Maxx, Ross, and Express.
Unknown Speaker (13:31): I live in a place like that in New Jersey. Like I live in New Jersey. I don't even live in a town. Like I hate towns like that. Just personally.
Unknown Speaker (13:39): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (13:40): Yeah. Yeah. And I think it works for some people, but she wasn't there yet.
Unknown Speaker (13:44): Right. It's kind of the
Speaker 2 (13:45): same thing that Kyle from that other show, Summer House, was struggling with. I'm not really ready to move to the to the birds. I love the dynamic and the energy of the city. And so anyway, that's what I'm taking from that relationship. But I will say, and I do agree with you, if you were to look at them as a couple, yeah, it makes sense.
Unknown Speaker (14:05): They've got the kids, the 400 to four, the big house and all the things. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:08): Her best friend, Kristen, was so much further down the valley. So I'm sure, you know, both of their daughters are the exact same age. I believe they're both three months. So I'm sure Nia would have loved to have Kristen there and vice versa because they're both going through the biggest issues, I would say.
Speaker 2 (14:27): Yeah. I mean, it's so important when you have that many children, particularly that you have a community around you to, you know, keep you motivated, help you raise them, to co op some stuff, you know? And it sounds as if maybe she's made friends and made community out there. Maybe she has thus far. It'd be nice to know during the reunion, but it seems like she's really isolated from community and it seems community is super important to her.
Unknown Speaker (14:50): I hope her mom lives nearby. Yeah. Or some type of family, I hope. Yes.
Speaker 2 (14:57): Yes. So speaking of Danny, going on with this apology between him and Jason, Correct me if I'm wrong. Is he I keep watching it. I keep rewinding it. Is he taking the apology a little too far?
Unknown Speaker (15:15): You think? I mean, oh my God.
Speaker 2 (15:19): He's on high horse. Labels are based on your prior relationship with alcohol, which led you to do some clownish douchey kind of things.
Unknown Speaker (15:33): And he won't take accountability at You might not be a clown and you
Speaker 2 (15:38): might not be a douche in theory, but you did some clownish douchey kind of things. And so when we touch women on their posterior and they didn't ask you to, and then you say, come to daddy, that's all kinds of wrong. So the word assault, in my opinion, might be a little charged. Let's just take a salt off the table. It's not even about the word it's about the behavior was inappropriate and it may have possibly been informed by your drinking.
Unknown Speaker (16:09): It had to be. I think it definitely was.
Unknown Speaker (16:13): It's been done a couple of times, right? To strangers, right? Yes.
Speaker 1 (16:17): So we, so we heard he smacked Jasmine on the behind and Danny's excuse this episode was, but it didn't happen to Janet herself. But that doesn't matter because when Janet's close friends, two of them have told her that this man has done something where he's grabbed them, she's gonna be nervous, especially when you walk into a closet and close the door.
Speaker 2 (16:45): I think him walking into the closet and closing the door and taking a shot. Okay. I'm gonna just take one table. You know, you you you were clearly inebriated and you just stumbled in there. I'm gonna take a shot.
Speaker 2 (16:58): You know? And then go about your way. Okay. Let's take that one off the table. Right?
Speaker 2 (17:03): But I do believe I recall fans helped me out YouTube, get into the comments. Don't you recall an episode last season, the winery trip in, Paso Robles or wherever that Jesse had had us set up or somewhere that season that he was drunk and Nia corrected on his drunkenness.
Speaker 1 (17:24): Yes. That's when it happened.
Speaker 2 (17:27): Right. And then we saw it again at Jack's when, well, it was Britney's that night and she had to remind him we're filming, like we're on camera, which actually feeds into what Janet was saying, or somebody was saying that you do, or maybe it was Britney was saying like, you're very cognizant of the cameras and you don't show your entire life to the extent that we do it. But I do remember her course correcting him in real time doing one of his drunken moments.
Speaker 1 (17:53): I agree. She said something along the lines of the cameras are watching, the cameras are on, like be quiet.
Unknown Speaker (18:01): I want to be very specific with that. So I'm, I think I'm going to go back and try to find it. So, cause if I'm wrong, It I don't want to
Speaker 1 (18:09): was definitely something about the cameras. So I feel definitely safe in saying that.
Speaker 2 (18:16): I think we saw a couple of times last season where she was correcting him in the middle of him being inebriated.
Speaker 1 (18:23): And at least she's doing that. You know? At least she's not staying silent though. She's she has a little bit of strength. And I I didn't also like how Danny in this episode said about Jason behind his back.
Speaker 1 (18:37): Oh, let's go see what Janet has to say. I mean, Jason. Implying that because a man defends his wife and agrees with his wife that he can't have his own opinion. No, that's Jason's opinion. He's a lawyer.
Unknown Speaker (18:52): Is his opinion. If your wife called
Speaker 2 (18:55): you out two seasons about your, in the course of alcoholic related might be clownish, might be douchey behavior, then it's a problem because your wife is even calling you out on it. Right? Yes. And I thought that that was a not, not the manliest of moves to, to refer to Jason as Janet. And I don't know, he just seemed very bitter every time he passed what he's drinking and he defaults to water or, soda, not soda water.
Unknown Speaker (19:29): What do call it? What do you call it? Perrier.
Unknown Speaker (19:32): It was Perrier. Every,
Speaker 2 (19:35): every time he defaults to that, he looks angry. I mean, he looks mad. Get your drink on Danny, get your drink on. Get your No, drink
Unknown Speaker (19:45): he cares.
Unknown Speaker (19:46): Do what you do, but understand if you do what you do and it falls under the domains of clownish and douche, they're gonna talk about it.
Speaker 1 (19:52): You gotta take an Uber home and don't touch Is it really that hard?
Speaker 2 (19:59): I just feel like he's taking it so far and I've got to say it for a man who I think I heard him espouse last week, how Christian he is. He's a Christian man and all of the things. I'm trying to remember what part of the Bible says, hold onto a grudge this long about something so in the fair, something so like less than, I mean, it's short lived experience and you're clearly bothered by it, but where is your, when, where does your Christianity show up in the chat and say, you know what? I don't like what you said. I feel very betrayed by you, Jason, because you were my friend.
Speaker 2 (20:37): I thought you would at least understand me enough to co sign my behavior and talk, you know, and let me, and maybe not call me that word, but you know what, dude, I understand. And by the way, I'm not living up to my Christian, responsibilities. Yeah. Because we all know that in Ephesians five eighteen, it says, do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the spirit.
Speaker 2 (21:02): It also says, Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Now I'm pretty It also says, Do not join those who drink too much wine or force themselves. Listen, I can go on. Listen.
Unknown Speaker (21:18): How many sayings are there?
Speaker 2 (21:21): Oh my gosh, there's so many. But it's it's really talking about like the over abuse of alcohol, but it also says love thy neighbor and to forgive, right? If these are all things that are important to you, you would collectively look at these verses, You'd figure out where you are, where you begin with these verses and where you end with them. And you would course correct your behavior. You would forgive and you'd move on and you course correct your behavior and be fine.
Unknown Speaker (21:49): And stop being resentful that you're drinking water.
Speaker 1 (21:52): Girl, I could not have said it better myself. You did your thing. Because to be that bitter and resentful, get it. No. No, I'm not gonna drink whiskey because certain people here would say things.
Speaker 1 (22:06): Like, Dandy, you are not 15. Like, you could tell a man how you feel as another man. It's okay. You could also
Speaker 2 (22:17): have that drink of whiskey and say, you know what? I'm having this. Love If my I get out of line, Jason, if I start falling into that notorious clownish, douchey behavior, hold me back.
Unknown Speaker (22:29): That would've been funny too. See?
Speaker 2 (22:31): Yeah, that's it. That's it. Don't like what you said. Was embarrassed that you called me out, but he is holding 10 toes down and 10 fingers down and, like, when I don't wanna be your friend. Do you think Jason came there for an apology?
Unknown Speaker (22:44): Jason said, I don't really wanna be your friend either.
Unknown Speaker (22:47): He doesn't wanna be your friend either. No, he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (22:50): Listen, he has Janet. He has Jared Lips. He has Zach. Well, no, I don't know if he has Zach, but he has friends and he does not need Danny in Santa Clarita in his life.
Speaker 2 (23:05): But where Danny does win with me before we move on, Danny does win with me is that he is a really good father. I know we made fun of the nipple thingy, which couldn't compute that, but okay. It was a little I do appreciate that for that moment, was leaning in and saying, you know, my wife needs help. If this is one way I can take this off of you, then, you know, I'm here for it. So I really do appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (23:31): And I do appreciate that he did show up to the cigar lounge. I don't know if he showed up because he was interested in reconciliation. I don't think so. I think he showed up to pull rank, but I'm looking forward to him and Jason reconciling on some level because I liked them together as friends in the early season.
Unknown Speaker (23:48): I know. Me too, girl.
Speaker 2 (23:50): I really liked them together, you know?
Speaker 1 (23:53): I don't like this divide between Janet and Jason and the rest of the group.
Unknown Speaker (23:58): Yeah. I don't like it either.
Speaker 1 (24:00): And I think it's taking away from the audience. Like we could be seeing such captivating conversations. We could be seeing nuance, but all we're getting are sometimes manufactured scenes of singles night. And some of the scenes seem a little like producer esque, you know?
Speaker 2 (24:23): They do, Especially last week, which was so hard That to
Speaker 1 (24:25): singles night did. Last week did with the Oh,
Speaker 2 (24:28): singles did, the singles I did feel produced.
Speaker 1 (24:31): It felt very produced, very staged for the And I feel like if we had a real person like Janet on, we wouldn't need to be doing these staged events.
Speaker 2 (24:43): I don't know. There's something missing this season.
Unknown Speaker (24:45): Yeah. Something is
Speaker 2 (24:46): keeping in mind that I like all of the characters and how they're showing up and in Danny, you good with me. I just need you to do better, do better. Apologize. Step into those Christian shoes and apologize. Let it go.
Speaker 2 (25:00): Put on your sandals and get your Bible and apologize. You
Unknown Speaker (25:05): too, Leah. We're
Unknown Speaker (25:06): talking Yeah, to you too, but I feel like there's something missing and it's not a Jack's thing because we don't want that toxicity in our lives.
Speaker 1 (25:16): I was about to ask you, do you think it's Jack's?
Speaker 2 (25:18): No, because I knew, I felt that that's what you probably feel like there's something missing and I just don't know what. I think I need another episode and I will figure it out. But there's a core conflict that is missing that drives the show, these shows. And I'm not seeing what it is, but what I am seeing, what I do like, and maybe, maybe that's it. This episode I like, they were happy.
Speaker 2 (25:42): Michelle's happy. She's smiling. She's girl's girl. She's trying to, you know, do all the things we got. Good point.
Speaker 2 (25:48): Yeah. We got manly pedicures going on and Jesse committing to the theme with the full Havana hat. I mean, the man commits to the theme. Okay.
Unknown Speaker (25:57): He knows how to dress.
Speaker 2 (25:59): Is not. Got a Tom Sandoval commitment to it, which I kind of, I kind of rather enjoy. I'm kind of over Danny coming in hot and on bitch heels about a conflict that could die with an apology on your end because Jason led this with an apology. He led with an apology, And then you didn't take it. Nope.
Unknown Speaker (26:24): And then now you're mad he's rolling his eyes because, well, I just gave you an apology.
Unknown Speaker (26:28): And I apologize. Apologize. Janet apologized. Janet
Unknown Speaker (26:33): and Jason apologized to you in one pill.
Speaker 1 (26:35): They're doing their best. These are Christian values, except apologies.
Unknown Speaker (26:40): Anyways. Come
Speaker 1 (26:41): on, let it go. Like, I don't know if this is the problem, I would have to say as somebody like us who looks into the, we look into the editing, we look into the producing, the why they do the things they do, and it must be hard to have such a division in a cast.
Speaker 2 (27:00): Yeah. And everybody on that table is giving him good advice. And I have to not sure why Luke put himself in the center of it. That's the part that does feel a little produced to me because I feel like we said last week, it would have been much better received with somebody with a historical relationship to Danny to really say, do like, remember us when we were the Fox Force three, you know, if that, if that's what's gonna apply to the let's go. But you have, you have Luke who I know he's trying to find his way with this cast and probably feels very compelled and pressured to show up with this friend group.
Speaker 2 (27:39): It's just not landing with him as a mediator for me. And it's not landing at all.
Unknown Speaker (27:46): It's not landing with me either.
Speaker 2 (27:49): Hey there, you've been listening to part one and we are just getting started. Make sure that you tune in for part two. We'll drop by midnight and we are definitely getting into the Luke and Kristen of it all. We also debate very heavily what is needed to make sure that this franchise gets the attention and the viewership that it deserves, because there's just something that's not landing. There's someone who's missing.
Speaker 2 (28:14): There's a couple of people that are missing, episode to episode that I think that we think actually could really, take this to the next level. Something about the valley that's just not hitting correctly the way it can be. So we get into all of that and we even have a little bit of summer house commentary for you because no episode at this point is complete without diving into a little bit of the Amanda West and Sierra of it all. And we cannot forget about Kyle. So anyways, make sure that you, tune in and we'll see you on the other side.
