Leigh (2:32): Leigh says what she wants, and she's very unapologetically herself as am I. I'm just not that cruel. Jo Ellen.
Jo Ellen (2:43): Jo Ellen clocked that. She clocked it, and I think she clocked it the way that we're all seeing it. One of the things that came up for me, this episode is to what extent is some of what we're seeing performative and we are Let's definitely going to get into get into it. Let's go. So now we're in Rhode Island, and we pick up we pick up on the tail end of the fight between Jo Ellen and Liz.
Jo Ellen (3:14): And I gotta tell you, I love it when franchises do this where, you know, you know, you ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger last week or before, and then we come back to the cliffhanger, kind of like a a very well tuned Lifetime movie.
Leigh (3:26): Oh my god. L same. I love when they do that.
Unknown Speaker (3:30): I do too. I I do too. I get it because it makes sense.
Unknown Speaker (3:34): Yeah. We
Jo Ellen (3:35): see a very, very, very, very hurt Joellen. And for all of Joellen's bark sounding super, really big, you know, she doesn't really have as much bite as she kinda came off that she had that very first the very first couple of episodes. We're in episode 11.
Leigh (3:51): Crazy that we're on episode 11 already. I don't want it to end.
Jo Ellen (3:57): I know. I really enjoy the show, but I didn't think that she was as much scared of Joellen as much as she's hurt and kind of like, how did we get here?
Leigh (4:08): I don't think Joellen is scared of Liz, but I think she feels a little maybe attacked by the way Liz pulled her hair and pushed her chair, you know? Yeah. That a lot.
Jo Ellen (4:21): That was a lot to watch. And I want to kind of lean into this one thing that I, you have three women in that car who basically are trauma bonded in different kinds of ways. They all have their own source of trauma, right? Yeah. Liz accuses Joellen as being phony and fake because she was in there advocating for Alicia to be heard and the right to be seen.
Jo Ellen (4:45): That didn't resonate with Liz because in her opinion, just days prior, Joellen was having something to say about the homeless comment as well.
Leigh (4:55): Right? I get that, but I think it was all about the nuance that Exactly. She's
Jo Ellen (5:04): Part of that nuance could be is that, do you think that watching Liz attack Alicia the way she did was triggering for her and maybe reminded her of how she might have been unfairly attacked by her mom back in the day, how she might have been the subject of that kind of betrothal different situations in her youth, which is why I do believe in that moment she was authentically like, you gotta stop. Like, I was wondering, did that feel familiar to her on some level where, yeah, I'm gonna stand up for her. Doesn't matter what I said two weeks ago. This right here is wrong. And I think we've all been in friendship groups, right?
Unknown Speaker (5:44): Where, well, you've been in some groups and there's some shade and all of this and conflict going on. You might be putting a little stuff in the fire, but then when it goes too far, you're waiting a minute.
Leigh (5:54): Yeah. Then things go too far. Exactly.
Unknown Speaker (5:59): What do you think?
Leigh (6:00): I do think that I don't think that Jo Ellen went into it with bad intentions, but I don't know if you feel the same way, but I do feel that Liz went into it with a plan of what she was gonna say to her, how she was gonna cuss her out. Think she went in with an idea.
Jo Ellen (6:21): Could see that. I could see that. And I could see also how just based on the little tidbits of what we've learned about Joelle and how she's experienced this before, is really like not only fighting for her right to be seen, but part of me was wondering, was like,
Leigh (6:39): you fighting also for her inner child? Because nobody ever fought for her. She feels like she needs to
Unknown Speaker (6:46): protect There you go.
Unknown Speaker (6:49): Yeah, honestly.
Jo Ellen (6:51): And it's not that Alicia couldn't fight for herself because I do believe she's a fighter, right? Sometimes people can suck the fight right out of you And that was viscerally personal to her. And I don't think she had any fight to to give, but trust and believe, I think Alicia could go head to head toe to toe and and get it all done. Now we are taking our magic carpet ride to the Arabian dance party.
Leigh (7:16): Which was so cute. Love that thing.
Unknown Speaker (7:19): Can't call for that. I was like, what would I wear if I went to this? Was immediately thinking know, about what you
Leigh (7:24): right? Like, don't really like theme parties, but it's an excuse to wear a crop top. I like that.
Unknown Speaker (7:30): True enough.
Unknown Speaker (7:30): It's an excuse to show your body.
Jo Ellen (7:33): Yeah. Well, I would, I would be the one with the big Moo Moo on a big chiffon Moo Moo. No. Yeah. Yep.
Jo Ellen (7:40): That would be happening. Lying. Let's give let's give it up to Alicia for being the bigger person, walking in there with fear. Honestly. Something about her fear in the car with good old Brian who says, oh, just get over it.
Unknown Speaker (7:54): Like, oh my god. This guy.
Unknown Speaker (7:56): I just Oh my god. Her husband. Right?
Unknown Speaker (7:58): Yeah. I cannot with him.
Unknown Speaker (7:59): Beyonce for
Unknown Speaker (8:00): nine years. Can't with him.
Leigh (8:02): No. I didn't like that advice either, and I know men are typical with that, but I feel like in 2026, men know better.
Jo Ellen (8:10): Yeah. You definitely know better. And I didn't love that advice whatsoever, but here we are. No. So she gets there.
Jo Ellen (8:16): She's openly talking about how she really doesn't want any awkwardness, gets a little rattled when Liz walks through the door, and then puts her big girl stilettos on and walks right, sachets right over there and says, Hey.
Leigh (8:32): Yep. She says, Hey, I don't want any awkwardness.
Jo Ellen (8:39): I love you. I didn't think that was her responsibility to do that. I think Liz should have been the one to do that. I guess she tried to do that by calling her, but I'm, you know, I'm of the mindset. You go that deep, no, we're talking about this face to face and I have a right to reject your phone call.
Jo Ellen (8:53): But it seems to me the number one priority would have been you go up and you apologize and you take one for the team because you were the aggressor. But, anyway, Alicia takes one for the team, makes good. And she says what? That she doesn't wanna fight with her. She doesn't wanna be mad
Leigh (9:10): at her. Right. You know? I love you. I don't wanna fight with you.
Leigh (9:14): We just listened to this, but that's the only thing that I remember from her message. But it was beautiful to me. And then she told us in the confessional, you don't have to be best friends with me. You don't necessarily need to be friends, but we can just be kosher. And that's, that's the way Rosie summed it up.
Unknown Speaker (9:37): That's how I feel too.
Jo Ellen (9:39): Were you confused by the fact that Liz Liz's bark is much worse than her bite? Me just, let me put it that way. Words is an empty wagon that rattles really loudly because when you come across like that chick and you default and you say that, Hey, I'm sorry, but I never got a minute to give you compassion because Jo Ellen, because of Jo Ellen and, and I felt tag teamed. How did all of a sudden she become the quote unquote victim in this? How does she become the one that was not villainized, but being the victim of being villain that's constructed in her head when all Jo Ellen was trying to do was be a mediator?
Unknown Speaker (10:25): Make that make sense for me, Kat.
Leigh (10:27): No, because it doesn't make sense. I'm sorry, but I cannot, babe. Because Jo Ellen was only trying to help. And Liz freaking attacked this poor woman outside, inside. She pushed her chair.
Leigh (10:44): She pulled her hair like girl over a comment. And it's like, you are an adult. Why are you acting this way? Do you think she,
Jo Ellen (10:58): why do you think she was so passionate about advocating for Alicia in that moment? And I know we're talking about an episode from last week, but it did have carryover for this week because now Joellen is
Unknown Speaker (11:10): blamed as
Jo Ellen (11:10): being the mediator. I mean, is blamed as being the villain this and responsible for tag teaming. But why do you think she was fighting so hard for Alicia?
Leigh (11:21): I actually do think it is what I said. I wasn't even joking that she was fighting for her inner child. And I really believe that this is something Jo Ellen strongly believes in. And she's that type of a person that if she feels that you're getting bullied, she's gonna stop it. No matter
Jo Ellen (11:42): It was very apparent to me that something in this interaction was not just about Alicia, but she was also in a place that was familiar to her as a child, a place that maybe had been familiar to her with her mother. And going to a school as the kind that she went to, there's a big possibility that she was bullied. I think she did say she was bullied, right? She's really kind of a softy. She doesn't want anybody to be hurt.
Jo Ellen (12:07): She doesn't want anybody to be victimized. I think that that's what we saw. And I applaud her for that. I applaud Alicia for, you know, putting on her big girl stilettos and walking over there and saying, hey,
Unknown Speaker (12:18): let's go.
Jo Ellen (12:19): Still in her confessionals, it very clear, like, I didn't say I trusted her. I said, I don't want to fight with her. Let's make it good. I do love her, but me loving her doesn't mean that I have to cosign her mess and Exactly. Have to treat And that's how she could get it herself.
Leigh (12:33): Should be handled.
Jo Ellen (12:34): Yeah. Yeah. So seems like the Arabian Nights was a night of reconciliations because the next up is Rosie and Kelsey.
Leigh (12:44): Oh. And, and so their men were talking about it prior to them speaking. So Rosie's husband and Kelsey's boyfriend, Bill, they were chatting and they were like, you know, I think the girls at first I thought they were these macho guys. But then when you get to the heart of it, they just want them to like reconcile and be nice acquaintances.
Jo Ellen (13:09): Yeah. Kelsey couldn't care less about reconciling with Rosie. She hates She is not a fan of her.
Leigh (13:16): I don't know why. I really don't.
Jo Ellen (13:20): The two entities on this cast that are the least interesting to me right now, also Ashley, Kelsey and Liz, because I think Kelsey and Liz are very formative in their, in their anger. Their whole thing is performative. It doesn't come across authentic. Yeah. I'm interested in them.
Jo Ellen (13:36): And Ashley just doesn't appear to be comfortable on this show. I think she's a girl's girl and would be so much fun to brunch with and do all the things, but I don't think she's very fun to watch on the show because she seems uncomfortable.
Leigh (13:50): And I unfortunately have to agree with that. I wanted her to be good, not because I'm a bachelor fan, but because she was on that franchise and I wanted her to do well. But unfortunately Bravo casting perhaps needs to realize that just because somebody was on another reality show doesn't mean they're right for this show.
Jo Ellen (14:13): She, this show is about conflict, conflict at its core.
Leigh (14:17): And resolution.
Jo Ellen (14:18): We might we might seek resolution. We might not. We're gonna try. And conflict just freaks her out. I don't know how she showed up on the bachelor or bachelorette or whatever show she was on, but conflict freaks her out.
Unknown Speaker (14:33): And the first thing she says is, oh my God, I'm so glad I wasn't there. Did. That's the wrong answer for a housewife. The right answer would be like, man, if I was there, squabble up and all Exactly. The
Leigh (14:47): If I was there, I would've had your back. I would've told you to step aside like something.
Unknown Speaker (14:52): You know? So And Elle, why
Unknown Speaker (14:54): do you feel like they chose her? I think you
Jo Ellen (15:02): I think she's marketable because she's on the bachelor, the bachelorette. She's sounds like she's
Leigh (15:06): from the area. I agree.
Jo Ellen (15:08): Sadly. They're a husband and wife team, you know, so I guess they make sense. But my understanding is that she doesn't even hang out with the girls outside of the show that all of the cast hangs out with each other, but she's the one that's less likely to hang out with her cast members with any level of consistency, which I think you have to do when the cameras are off. So you develop those bonds translate beautifully on camera. So when conflict happens, it's real because real feelings are involved.
Jo Ellen (15:37): We've got a show that has some fractures. We have the Liz, Kelsey, and Dolores camp. We have the Alicia, Jo Ellen, and Rula camp and Rosie Camp. Mhmm. And and Ashley is under the table somewhere.
Unknown Speaker (15:55): She don't wanna be involved. She's she's not even trying to play the cock and cock.
Leigh (15:59): That made me laugh. So oh my god.
Jo Ellen (16:02): She's under the table at Audrey's.
Unknown Speaker (16:04): She's somewhere scared. Right. Right. Right. Crawling to Jared to help her.
Jo Ellen (16:11): So it's gonna be interesting to see where these fractures go. I wouldn't be surprised if the fracture gets deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper, and deeper.
Leigh (16:21): Not at all. I wouldn't be surprised either. The way it's going right now, I know, Kelsey and Rosie, I don't think that's gonna even last more than one episode. I'm just keeping it a 100. And, with how scared Ashley is, I don't think that's getting better anytime soon.
Jo Ellen (16:39): No, she's gonna open herself to having a really bad season with that level of not wanting to engage in conflict.
Leigh (16:47): I don't know what she thought housewives was before she came on the show.
Unknown Speaker (16:54): Yeah.
Leigh (16:54): It doesn't seem like she watched it.
Jo Ellen (16:57): So what did you think about Rula's reaction to Rosie talking about the video?
Leigh (17:04): I was gonna ask you that girl, but, I think she had a great reaction. I think she held that to the chest, like so brave and so ready to lie, man. Like, no. What? What time?
Leigh (17:21): When? You know?
Jo Ellen (17:23): Well, we don't know if she's lying.
Unknown Speaker (17:26): I know.
Jo Ellen (17:28): But what we do know is Brian seemed very uncomfortable when it was being discussed. Could be the edit. And I don't know to what extent that Chatter is true or not about him wanting a divorce and she refusing to give it, But I have to say she handled it like a champ. She really did. She really did.
Jo Ellen (17:53): I appreciated Rosie's effort. I did not appreciate her timing.
Unknown Speaker (17:59): Yeah. That makes sense. That tracks. I think
Unknown Speaker (18:03): she had that conversation at tea or somewhere, but to have it at her party, you know, obviously trying to create a moment, it felt produced a little bit. Like maybe a producer said, hey, go make sure you tell her. Oh, the other thing that we know is that Joellen is probably not gonna be super happy about this. Oh, what? Because Rula is not mad at Rosie for bringing her the information.
Jo Ellen (18:26): Rula is still stuck on the fact that Joellen has uncovered the information.
Leigh (18:30): I love that. I I'm not gonna lie. I low key think it's hilarious that Rula keeps getting mad at Jo Ellen more and more and more like it's just, and Jo Ellen keeps bringing her info and it's like, girl, that's not helping. The more info you bring, the more she's gonna dislike you. Just stop.
Jo Ellen (18:51): Well, you know, she's mad at Joellen for uncovering something that probably is true in all likelihood.
Unknown Speaker (18:59): Exactly. It's
Jo Ellen (18:59): probably a thousand percent true. John hasn't done anything but tried to save you from this marriage. You know, like we talked about before, women know what they're doing. Like if they, if a woman knows that her husband's cheating, she's not gonna leave him until she's ready. So there's no need to keep asking it.
Jo Ellen (19:15): A storyline is needed for this first season, so I get it. But I feel like it's it's kind of played out. I think that that's probably where we're gonna see some more tension come up where Joellen is gonna be fighting for her life against Rula and her rage.
Leigh (19:27): Yeah. It's so sad to me. And remember when Joellen, this last episode, went to Brian's office and they were talking about remember when we went to Turks and they were talking about all their, like, good memories? I got it at that moment. I said, this is why she doesn't want a divorce.
Leigh (19:46): We have all these memories together, and she loves it.
Jo Ellen (19:50): We have memories. We have cultural issues where she's already been divorced and how bad that would look in her culture.
Unknown Speaker (19:57): Yikes.
Jo Ellen (20:02): By your man, you know, have, we have finances. There's many things you can't just always pick up and leave your guide. If he is cheating, I think she probably has come to terms with it.
Unknown Speaker (20:11): Yeah. I did. I love the honesty.
Unknown Speaker (20:16): She's so honest. It's really refreshing.
Leigh (20:17): You can't get mad at her because at that point Rula's like, no, I get it. Yeah. Because I don't think Rula would tell her either, you know?
Unknown Speaker (20:26): I don't think so either. Don't think so.
Leigh (20:28): A hard situation. It's really sticky.
Unknown Speaker (20:32): And
Leigh (20:32): you are gonna be the, the odd one out if you bring it to Rula.
Jo Ellen (20:39): That comes up a lot. I see this in different blogs. Would you tell your friend that her husband was having an affair if you knew? Sometimes the person bringing the bone ain't always They're looked at often scapegoated as being the problem and then the husband gets a pass because he can deflect. There's a deflection that happens where the person who in there who's trying like Joellen trying to do the right thing ends up being casted as the one that's being problematic in the relationship.
Jo Ellen (21:15): You Absolutely.
Leigh (21:16): No, you're right. But I will say Joellen can't read the room as far as Rula telling her, I really don't need to hear about this anymore. And she really just can't read the room and stop bringing her information.
Jo Ellen (21:34): Yeah. Well, that's part of She's also doing the job of a housewife too.
Leigh (21:38): You know what? Amen to that.
Unknown Speaker (21:40): Where this franchise That's is
Leigh (21:41): a good point. Yeah. Yeah. She's making it the best season that it is. This show and this season and this franchise started off with a bang, and it's an amazing show.
Jo Ellen (21:54): It is an amazing show. So we have two reconciliations. We have another setup in the making. We have Liz and Kelsey doing their due diligence and planning a cast trip.
Unknown Speaker (22:04): Yeah.
Unknown Speaker (22:05): That Block Island that we know is going to be. I've been there. Kinds of chaos. Yeah. Have you really?
Leigh (22:12): I have. When they said that, I was like, I need to tell the podcast that I have been there.
Unknown Speaker (22:16): Tell us about it. Like, I I I wanna know.
Leigh (22:19): It is beautiful. Oh my god. So Block Island is literally a tiny island off the coast of Rhode Island, And it's a part of the state, but it's literally an island. And the only way you can get to it is with a ferry. It's a beautiful small town.
Leigh (22:35): It has the cutest shops, not that many places to eat, not that many people.
Unknown Speaker (22:41): Oh, really? So it's like a Hamptons for Jersey.
Leigh (22:44): Exactly. It's very empty.
Jo Ellen (22:48): Well, it's going to be interesting to see what jumps off on this trip because whatever jumps off, it's not going to be good. It doesn't seem like the husbands are going to be involved on this trip. It seems like it's a girls trip up here. One thing I say that they did do well is putting the husbands involved as it relates to Rosie and Kelsey trying to make up. Neither of them are interested in making up.
Jo Ellen (23:08): They hate each other. It's pretty odd.
Leigh (23:10): They don't give an F. Like, they do not And wanna make the husbands are like, come on. Like, you just make up?
Unknown Speaker (23:19): Wanna make up. Probably because they're tired of hearing hearing each other's wives or girlfriends or what have you talk incessantly about that. That's probably why they want it done.
Leigh (23:29): It's like an SNL skit. They're both so desperate. They're like, bro, we gotta stop this. We this is too much. Every day she's telling me about this fight.
Leigh (23:39): I that's what it is.
Unknown Speaker (23:41): Men hate that stuff.
Unknown Speaker (23:42): So tired of it. Yeah. Who does?
Jo Ellen (23:45): Men are just are typically averse to wanting to know about all the drama of their friends. You know what I'm saying? They are.
Leigh (23:53): It gets me so mad because you can explain the story and they'll just say something to you like, yeah, just get over it. That's it. Let
Unknown Speaker (24:02): me ask you a quick question. So so Rosie exposes Brian's video. Oh, good. Rosie exposes Ryan's video and the first thing he says is that you can timestamp a video. How do you timestamp a video?
Leigh (24:15): So that was an interesting point. So did he mean that they can fake timestamp a video?
Unknown Speaker (24:23): You take picture, there's timestamp. So I was just curious how he knew that.
Leigh (24:28): I know, right? Why was it the first thing on his mind?
Unknown Speaker (24:33): That what you've
Unknown Speaker (24:33): First been of all, you can timestamp a video.
Jo Ellen (24:35): I know. But he seems so used to answering these questions that he seemed completely unbothered and yet bothered at the same time.
Leigh (24:42): Unbothered. He is literally like so unbothered. He's like, yeah, you could timestamp it. What? Like, what?
Leigh (24:51): Like, he does not
Unknown Speaker (24:52): They do it all the time.
Leigh (24:54): Yeah. I do. What? You never heard of that? You never heard of a woman trying to take a man down?
Leigh (24:59): What? I was just like, oh my god, Brian. Please think of something better than this. I think she Tell the truth.
Unknown Speaker (25:07): Just tell the truth. Just get up there since I've cheated on my wife.
Unknown Speaker (25:10): That's not gonna happen.
Unknown Speaker (25:11): I enjoyed every minute of it. I don't wanna be in this marriage, but this is how we're living. Like, just be honest. Just put it out there. And let's move They on to something
Leigh (25:21): like they're so in love. And that's what was confusing me too. I'm like, Rula, I am right there with you because he's acting like he's so in love with you. What? Gosh.
Jo Ellen (25:35): I do not even know. One thing I do know is that, you have been vindicated. Apparently, there is a sofa in the office. So
Unknown Speaker (25:44): Oh, who said that?
Unknown Speaker (25:48): Well, we saw her sitting on the sofa getting her toes looked at. You're right. Gosh. Scary.
Unknown Speaker (25:55): Where's the sofa in the office?
Unknown Speaker (25:57): Sounds like the Kraken has just been released.
Leigh (26:00): Everything has been answered. We know what we know. Just kidding, guys. No, I really don't want anyone to go crazy about this sofa. Totally LOL here.
Leigh (26:12): But interesting the way he treats her like a queen in front of our faces, and then he's like cheating behind her back. I just it's so weird.
Unknown Speaker (26:24): It's a lot going on there. Yeah. We'll see what happens next week. I think that this was one of those slow slow burn episodes, and it seems like Rhode Island, like, they give us something, and then they give us and then it flatlines. And then they give us something, and then it flatlines.
Unknown Speaker (26:39): Right? Because last week was pretty explosive. This week is kinda That's why fans aren't really, like, loving it the way that they should. Maybe that's what it is. So do
Leigh (26:48): you think instead of, let's say, 20 episodes, they should do just do 12, but 12 really solid episodes, Yeah. You I'd rather
Unknown Speaker (26:58): go in the direction of Ladies of London and give us 12 solid episodes and let's go on
Unknown Speaker (27:02): I to the
Unknown Speaker (27:03): think honestly, 20 episodes, I get kind of tired. I'm like, is it almost Yeah. One It's one of the reasons why I tapped out of love island back in the day because it took forever to be over.
Leigh (27:14): Yeah. That's how I feel about Beverly Hills. It's on too long. I feel like their seasons are, seasons are decades,
Unknown Speaker (27:23): decades, Years. Years.
Unknown Speaker (27:29): Carlisle and her family Anyways,
Jo Ellen (27:32): that's all for Rhode Island. Tell us what you think on the goodeditunfiltered.com in the comment sections. We wanna know how much you hate it, love it, or just don't care. All points of view are valid.
Leigh (27:43): Check us out on YouTube at The Good Edit and check us out on everywhere you listen to your podcasts, The Good Edit.
